Creative Discovery Museum, Friends Discover

Friends Discovery Camp 2016 brings back the best activities from Friends Discovery Camp in the past and adds new activities focused on SCIENCE.  We’ll investigate chemistry, biology and physical science as we have fun doing all sorts of STEM related activities. The younger children will center their focus around CDM’s blockbuster summer exhibit, Sid the Science Kid, while the older ones will explore WOW science including blowing things up, making chemical changes come to life and creating Mentos explosion shows. Both camps will be full of the traditional activities that have made Friends Discovery camp popular for a generation of children.  As always the week will culminate with a finale for the special folks in our campers’ lives. This exceptional camp, supported by UTC and Chattanooga Parks and Rec, offers children with and without autism the opportunity to make new and lasting friendships while having fun in a safe but exciting environment.   Now in its 17th year, Friends Discovery Camp includes a low counselor to child ratio that allows us to support all children safely as they engage in “over the top” activities that include museum play, outside play, field trips, water play, and other activities that challenge children and build lasting relationships. All counselors will have successfully completed a 3 hour credit course at UTC designed specifically to train counselors (Big Buddies) for this camp.
