It is a Federal program for preschool children from low-income families. The program is operated by local non-profit organizations in almost every county in the United States. Children who attend participate in a variety of educational activities. They also receive free medical and dental care, have healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe environment. Head Start/Early Head Start helps all children succeed. Services are offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. The program serves children 6 weeks to 4 years of age, who meet the Federal income guidelines.

Program serves both typically-developing children as well as those with disabilities/special needs, ages 6 weeks to 6 years old. Speech, feeding, vision, occupational, and physical therapies are offered on-site. Children’s program has two components: Early Intervention and Pre-school. The Children’s Program has three locations, Chattanooga, Cleveland, and Athens.
